Georgia O'Keefe Came to Town

Updated: Apr 14, 2018

The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, MA, recently curated an exhibit of Georgia O'Keefe's works titled:

Art, Image, Style. It was more than okay.

Georgia O'Keefe is a well known American artist but the recent exhibit of her work at the PEM revealed a side of her that I was unaware of. Her personal style.

The fact that she made her own clothing was a revelation. The fact that she had planned on being a fashion illustrator was another revelation.

Georgia O'Keefe's artistic direction took a major turn when she met and fell in love with Alfred Steigliz. But despite the various phases of her life, artistic and personal, O'Keefe maintained a style uniquely her own. This exhibit was a joy to experience. Kudos to the PEM for yet another stellar contribution to our community.

"I've been absolutely terrified every moment of my life–and I've never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do".
